What is a fire safety certificate?
A fire safety certificate is an official document that confirms that your vacation home, apartment, or other lodging meets the legal fire safety standards set forth in the Flemish Lodging Decree. The certificate is issued following an inspection by an accredited body or fire department.
You are required to have this certificate if you rent out your lodging for a fee, for example through Airbnb, Booking, or other rental platforms. Without a valid certificate, you are not permitted to rent out your property in Flanders.
